A pledge to mental health.
I understand that well-being is influenced by a number of factors such as our mental or emotional states. By downloading the mental health pledge certificate & displaying it at my place of work, I agree to show my support for the thriving of fellow employees who form my surrounding community.
Since mental health exists along a continuous spectrum, I strive for positive mental health every day. I may not always be 100%, but I give 100% effort. Self-care is not selfish. I am aware that I can be a beacon of light for others by taking responsibility for my own mental health.
I aspire for meaning through helping other people, establishing loving relationships, and creating something bigger than myself. I may get discouraged, but I don’t quit. It’s not only about what I have to do, but what I get to do. Failure or obstacles show me the way by showing me what isn’t the way. When I encounter difficult times or unjust I think: “if I can’t solve this for myself, how can I at least make this better for others?”
My superpowers consist of my ability to listen non-judgmentally and deploy empathy. I understand the power of words and the impact a conversation can make on someone’s life. I realize this is not about me or you, but instead, it’s about we.
As a colleague and/or a manager, I am mindful of my emotions in the workplace. I keep up-to-date with which resources are available to employees. In addition, I keep in mind how current or future workplace programs, policies, and procedures can have an effect on the mental health of employees. I recognize that an employee pausing is not the same as an employee stopping. Everyone, even I, desire to grow and feel appreciated. I am aware that change is inevitable, and can become easier when employees are involved and given feedback in the process.
My intentions are not to diagnose those around me, but rather, help eliminate the stigma so that those in need seek help. I avoid discrimination and assumptions to describe someone going through a mental health experience.
Lastly, by downloading the Mental Health Pledge certificate, I agree that I have read mental health definition from the World Health Organization (WHO):
Mental Health: a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to contribute to his or her community.
